How to Apply for a Marriage License

You may apply in person for a marriage license Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except legal holidays. You can apply online any time, but in order to complete the online application process, both applicants must go together to the Court between the hours listed above, with any additional required materials mentioned in these instructions.

Both applicants must go together to the Court located at 108 E. Main Street, Van Wert, Ohio, between the hours listed.

At least one of the applicants must be a resident of Van Wert County and the marriage must be performed in the State of Ohio. If both applicants are from out of state but wish to be married in Van Wert County, they must obtain their license in Van Wert County.

If either applicant is under 18 years of age, contact the court for further information.

A valid picture identification is required for an applicant, age 18 years or younger.

If either applicant has been previously married and divorced, a file stamped copy of the final order or decree granting the most recent divorce or dissolution is required.

Cost of the license is $45 (cash or money order). We will accept checks from Ohio residents only.

License may be used the same day it is issued. It must be used within 60 days. The day of issue is day 1 of the 60 days.

No blood test is required.
